Depression & Diet: What's Your Mood Got to Do with Food?

Have you ever thought depression or any other mental disorder is all in your head?  Well it’s not! This course will give you information about the microbiome and the brain-gut axis.  You are provided nutrition therapy advice on which nutrients, foods, spices and often consumed chemicals effect your brain, gut, microbiome, mood and behavior.  The standard American diet is discussed and why it is one of the main triggers for making you feel like blah, experience brain fog, trigger anxiety and unfavorable moods.  You will also learn methods to detoxify from sugar, which leads to weight loss, and why it is one of the root causes for inflammation.  You will be able to decide what types of oils to cook with or not and learn about Omega-3 fatty acids and the difference between Omega-3 fatty acids and Omega-6 fatty acids.  Certain vitamins are discussed such as Vitamin D and B12 and minerals like iron and magnesium.  You will also briefly learn why some people, genetically, cannot fully absorb certain nutrients that are vital to mental health.  You will learn briefly about true alcohol detoxification and healing spices like turmeric.  We will round out the lecture towards the end with other therapies that are beneficial in mental illness such as music therapy, pet therapy, light therapy, color therapy, yoga, meditation and so much more!  This course is for those dealing with depression and want more answers beside medication therapy, women dealing with post-partum depression, healthcare and behavioral health workers, health coaches, those interested in self-care and health & wellness geeks.  The majority of this course is in video format with supporting content to read and take notes from.  At the end of this course you know what nutrition therapy is best for your overall mental health & vitality and why.
