Challenging Workplace Anxiety Using the 5Ws
The American Psychological Association defines anxiety as an “emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure. People with anxiety disorders usually have recurring intrusive thoughts or concerns. They may avoid certain situations out of worry. They may also have physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, dizziness or a rapid heartbeat.” Workplace anxiety means exhibiting the above symptoms due to stressors within your professional setting.
Within this course, We will provide an overview of anxiety and define workplace anxiety. We will provide common causes and symptoms of workplace anxiety and discuss potential impact on the individual. We will engage in the understanding of the 5Ws strategy and the purpose through lectures, case studies and activities. Students will have an opportunity to apply the 5Ws strategy to personal experiences and make it applicable for them. It si the hope that each student can walk away from this course with more understanding of workplace anxiety and how to better manage for self. It is also the hope that each student can and will be able to create a tool kit of effective coping skills to better help stress and anxiety management. Thank you and enjoy the course!
