Theonomy (Old Testament Judicial Law) No More

Theonomy (Old Testament Judicial Law) No More

Unless you are a Theonomist yourself, a thorough study of the Old Testament legal system due to your love for the Old Testament, an exceptional astute theologian, or you just happened to be friends with a Theonomist or have met someone online who claims to be Theonomist. You probably have never heard of this word. It is not a word regularly discussed in churches. I went for years without hearing of it in my local church. I had to go to seminary to meet people of other persuasions that told me about it. Its lack of prevalence does not correlate with its importance in the biblical conversation. It was the civil legal code for Israel for centuries and it was the only political theological framework we had outside of the Garden of Eden up until the New Covenant came along to expand the subject biblically. Thus for any Christian who takes seriously what the Bible says about political Theology, Theonomy absolutely must be dealt with whether to default to it or biblically argue it no longer applies. Those are your only two options.

This course will discuss what Theonomy is and then it will discuss explain why it no longer applies because Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant and did away with it. There are many reasons why it has been done away with and this course will thoroughly unpack the covenantal and biblical reasons.
