Dips: Representation of geological structure and analysis

Dips: Representation of geological structure and analysis

Representing geological structure is one of the most importance thing that we do when we want to understand the tectonic of one area or to analysis and determine the planar Sliding.

The measurements of geological plans, whether they are limits of layers, plans of fractures or plans of schistosity must be represented to understand their orientation in space both individually and collectively.

This representation allows:

  • to detect the families of these different geological planes

  • perform statistical analyzes to determine the frequency of these planes

  • Identify a major orientation for a group of planes

  • Make a stability study of a fractured block

  • Easily and accurately measure the angle between 2 or more planes

  • Do a stability analysis of a boulder.

But many people doesn't know how to do this kind of thing, many others are loosing their time in doing it manuelly or using unappropriate tools.

Eather your are Geotechnics, Geologists, Mining Engineers, Interrested by  the Representation of geologicals structures, the course is adressed to you.

This training is made to teach you not only how to do all these things but also how to master Dips, the most importance software of geological structure's representation.

In this training you are going to learn how to:

  • Represent one or many geological structures on the steronet and frequency rosette

  • Identify the different families of the planes represented from frequency rosette or steronet

  • Make a stability study of a fractured block and determine planar sliding and wedge sliding

  • Determine the intersection between two planes

  • Measure the angle of intersection between 2 planes or lines

  • Identify a major orientation for a group of planes
