The term "mindfulness" originates from "the Pali word sati," which is a significant element of some Buddhist traditions."

The concept shares some similarities with concepts such as detached observation, awareness, attention characterized by an emphasis on the present moment, and has been linked to enhanced executive functioning. It is often popularly described as a state of being "fully awake and aware of what is happening in the present moment," or “knowing what you are doing when you’re doing it”.
