How To Design Curriculum for Your Homeschool
How To Design Curriculum for Your Homeschool
The sky is the limit with homeschooling...which can be terrifying! The main focus of this course will be to help you plan and deliver high quality homeschool instruction, regardless of the age of your children, the content you are teaching, or your homeschooling philosophy.
In this course, you will learn a structure and several key skills to confidently and competently design curriculum for your homeschool. You will view video lectures, see concrete examples, and complete assignments to check your understanding and practice the skills you learn. By the end of the course you will plan a real sequence of learning experiences for your child: leveraging and going beyond any curriculum you may be using.
A note-taking guide is provided so you can refer back to and build upon the information from the course throughout your homeschooling journey. From instructional design to record keeping, you'll not only be able to put each subject into practice immediately, but you'll also be equipped to defend the quality of your child's homeschooling experience.
The course covers the following topics:
Backwards Planning: Establish what your child will know at the end of the lesson or unit to ensure all learning activities are worthwhile.
Assessment: Design assessment to inform instruction, measure success, and prepare students for the real world.
Planning Learning Experiences: Engage children beyond the curriculum to make connections and inspire future learning.
Record Keeping: Produce and maintain the records you need to defend the high quality of your homeschool.
The instructor is a homeschool alumna. Erika holds teaching credentials in Illinois and California and was recognized with an Award of Excellence for her employing district before leaving the mainstream classroom to manage a regional career pathways program for a public charter school. She is currently an instructor for an approved teacher preparation program in California and designs and delivers curriculum for K-12 teachers across her county and region. Homeschooling remains close to her heart as she raises her young daughter.
