In this course you will learn the basics of editing. We will cover consistency, word choice, parallel construction, and punctuation, among other things. The course will help you read a piece of writing and be able to make some minor changes that can greatly improve the flow of the writing.
You will also gain an understanding of the AMA Manual of Style, which is the manual used in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. You will learn how to express significance in scientific data, how to write academic titles and degrees, how to write numerals and units of measure correctly, and how to use inclusive language. You’ll also learn about hyphens and dashes, capitalization, and the correct way to write brand and generic names in medicine.
If you're a graduate student in the sciences and have an understanding of medical terminology, this course will help you edit your own writing and will also provide you with the information needed to branch into the lucrative field of medical editing.
