Lots of us feel anxious from time to time. You might get a knot in your stomach before a job interview, stress about money, or fret if your child doesn’t reach home at the time. It’s a normal part of being human.

But what if your extreme worry doesn’t go away? Negative or obsessive thoughts can take over your mind to the point that it’s hard for you to handle everyday situations. That’s called neurotic behavior. It can -- but not always -- stem from a mental illness.

In this course, the students will learn detail on Neurotic Disorders, their types, and management.

After completing this course the students will know about:

1. Neurotic disorders and their classification according to ICD 10.

2. Phobic anxiety disorders - definition, its classification ( Agoraphobia, social phobia, specific phobia), etiology, treatment, and its management.

3. Other anxiety disorder

   • generalized anxiety disorder -Definition and clinical features

   • panic disorder - Definition and clinical features

   • Etiology, treatment, and management of other anxiety disorders.

4. Obsessive-compulsive disorder - meaning, the definition of obsession and compulsion, classification (etiology, clinical features, treatment, and management.

5. Reaction to stress and adjustment disorder - classification ( acute stress reaction, post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorder ), causes, symptoms, treatment, and management.

   • Acute stress reaction - Causes, symptoms, and treatment

   • post-traumatic stress disorder - symptoms, etiology, treatment, and management

   • adjustment disorder - symptoms, cause, and treatment

6. Dissociative disorder - Definition, features, types ( dissociative amnesia, dissociative fugue, dissociative stupor, Ganser's syndrome, multiple personality disorder, trance and possession disorder, dissociative motor disorder, dissociative convulsion, dissociative sensory loss, and anesthesia), Etiology, complications, treatment, and management.

7. Somatoform disorders- Definition, characteristics, classification ( somatization disorder, hypochondriasis, somatoform autonomic dysfunction, persistent somatoform pain disorder, other somatoform disorder), etiology, clinical manifestations, and management of various somatoform disorders.
