Basics of ECG

Basics of ECG

This course is associated with the functioning of heart is known as electrocardiogram. It is quasi periodic, rhythmically repeating signal synchronized by function of the heart ,which acts as a generator of bioelectric events.

Course is composed of six chapters.

The first chapter gives details of history of invention of ECG step by step along with heart structure and structure of cardiac muscle. its role in conduction of heart. It also describes pacemaker in heart and its control.

Second chapter describes the conduction of electrical signal throughout the heart. It also briefs about how heart act as a pump and how the de oxygenated blood collected in right side and oxygenated blood pumps throughout the heart.

Third chapter includes details of PQRST waveform and  significance of it and generated during pumping of heart. each part of waveform has some importance regarding blood flow through the heart.

Forth chapter explains lead system of ECG measurement unipolar leads and bipolar leads with calculation of heart rate. It calculates heart rate from the thermographic paper. the system of calculation along with formula is explained in detail.

Fifth chapter elaborate block diagram of ECG  importance of each block. In this  chapter other systems such  as Ballistocardiograph (BCG) ,  Vector cardiograph (VCG)  exercise ECG are described in brief.

Last chapter describes various applications such as arrhythmias, ischemia, heart failure are explained in short.
