Basics of Bridge Engineering

This course covers fundamental key concepts in bridge design. This course covers from past to present and future of bridge engineering. It also includes the definition of the bridge, classification of bridges, loads and load combinations as per various design codes, bearing articulation for straight and curved bridges, how to design the economic span of the bridge project, Roles and responsibilities of bridge design engineers when working with various stack holders.

This course also deals with some famous bridge engineers and their work across the globe. There are total 15 quiz questions covered to make your fundamentals more strong. Apart from that typical drawings are also shown in typical bridge design projects. Some real site pictures are also shown to make your visualization more clear.

The intention of this course is to share concepts and issues that are not often taught at the Universities or cannot easily be found in the books, as they are based on the professional experience of bridge designers. Based on my experience at contractor's and consultancy's firm both plus lecturing to engineering undergraduates and postgraduates, the course focuses on those areas students find particularly difficult while understanding this subject. The link between theory and practice is reinforced using my experience as a bridge design engineer in the infrastructure sector working on EPC/Design and Build contracts.
