Project Management Best Practices

Project Management Best Practices

This course is designed to teach you the fundamentals of project management including key concepts, terminology and how to go from project selection to project closure. Across 17 video lectures, you will have the opportunity to learn how projects can be instrumental in furthering organizational goals, the role of the Project Manager, and key project management documentation, tools, and language to guide a successful project.

By following the Project Management Lifecycle, you will learn critical project elements including:  starting a project, creating a project charter, project manager selection, identifying project scope, stakeholder management, requirements planning, project estimation, schedule development, budgeting, communication, quality and risk management, executing a project, overseeing and controlling a project, and ending a project.

You will be asked to independently complete two assignments throughout the course to help you grasp critical project management concepts using real-world case study examples. The first assignment asks you to create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and the second assignment is a Schedule Development exercise.

In addition, you will be able to download templates to jumpstart your own project planning and use across a variety of project contexts. Templates include: a project charter, stakeholder log, communications matrix, and a risk register.

Please note: This course is intended to overview the Project Management discipline and is not sufficient to prepare you for PMI's Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification exams.
