Learn Chinese Cursive Calligraphy with Poetry

Learn Chinese Cursive Calligraphy with Poetry

If you appreciate Chinese calligraphy, especially the cursive script, but hesitate to learn because you think it's too hard, this course is for you! I will teach the very basics of Chinese calligraphy starting from choosing the right tools.

If you have practiced Chinese calligraphy before but were merely copying the strokes, this course is for you! I will explain the unique technique of each type of cursive calligraphic stroke that you can combine and apply to many words.

If you think writing Chinese without understanding the meaning is lame, this course is for you. You would not only learn the meaning of individual characters but also how to interpret five poems by the five most important Chinese poets:

Li Bai "Departing from the White Emperor City in the Morning" (李白·早發白帝城)

Du Fu "Meeting Li Guinian in Jiangnan"(杜甫·江南逢李龜年)

Bai Juyi "Farewell at the Old grass field"(白居易·賦得古原草送別)

Li Shangyin "Ascend to the Amusement highland"(李商隱·登樂遊原)

Su Shi "For the Temple at West Forest"(蘇軾·題西林壁)

These works were all created during the Tang and Song dynasties, arguably the golden period of Chinese poetry. Coincidentally, Chinese calligraphy also reached a new height during that time. So, it is only fitting that we are practicing cursive calligraphy with these poems.

Please join me in this exciting journey into the wonderful world of Chinese cursive calligraphy.  No prior experience in Chinese writing is necessary.
