HR Analytics & People Analytics 101 Using Excel

HR Analytics & People Analytics 101 Using Excel

You do not need to be a math expert to take this class. All concepts taught are explained in simple terms. Join me to build your confidence around using HR data!

HR Analytics, also called People Analytics, talent analytics and workforce analytics has been increasingly used in corporate Human Resources (HR) teams.

This class is a beginner level introduction. It is intended for:

  • HR employees who want to learn how businesses are using analytics to study their workforces,

  • Students who wish to explore whether they would enjoy a career in HR Analytics, and

  • Beginner level analytics people who wonder how analytics is different in HR.

This course is not intended for analytics and statistical experts.

The course begins with real-world examples of analytics and the additional challenges that come with trying to study people. You will learn how HR teams are using analytics to improve the workplace for employees, to increase the bottom line for their business and to ensure fairness in the workplace.

I will present a step-by-step guide for approaching any analytics problem by beginning with the “business question.”

You will learn Tracey’s three fundamental rules for properly selecting which metrics to measure and what happens when you ignore Rule #3!

You will have several opportunities to practice your analytics skills in Excel (or in the tool of your choice) to answer real-world HR questions and provide HR leaders with decision-making advice based on your analysis.

  • Should your HR leader be concerned about turnover trends? Why are employees really leaving the company?

  • Can we use data to reduce the impact of a planned downsizing of the workforce?

  • Can we optimize recruitment from college and university campuses to help our leader reduce recruitment costs?

  • Are our hiring practices fair? You will learn how HR and Legal teams test for fairness by conducting an impact analysis.

We will install Excel’s free Data Analysis Toolpak to learn even more analytical techniques (or you can use the tool of your choice). While these techniques fall under the topic of statistics, do not worry if you are not a math expert. These techniques are easy to understand and I have taught them to thousands of non-mathematical students.

You will learn how to test if variables are related to each other, i.e., does a change in one create a change in another? I will teach you techniques to:

  • Test if performance scores are related to an employee’s salary,

  • Explore which factors can affect safety incidents, and

  • Understand how to properly analyze pay gaps.

I’ll provide simple explanations for how to use additional statistical tests to determine:

  • Whether a training workshop was effective and remained effective.

You’ll conclude the course learning:

  • HR’s role in protecting the privacy of employee data,

  • How confidential data is accidentally released, and

  • How different countries have implemented privacy regulations.

You will have the opportunity to answer quizzes throughout the course and be able to download multiple free reference sheets to guide you in your data analysis projects and pick mathematical techniques.

If that sounds like something that you’d love to learn, join me by registering for this class.
