ENGLISH GRAMMAR and PRONUNCIATION: CONTRACTIONS: 1

ENGLISH GRAMMAR and PRONUNCIATION: CONTRACTIONS: 1

COURSE 1

NATURAL SPOKEN ENGLISH is very contracted!  Understanding fast talking is very difficult.

So, practice contractions!  Ya ain't gonna wanna miss this course! (= You are not going to want to miss this course!)

LISTEN. Practice SPEAKING. LISTEN AGAIN. Practice again.

And we gotta check out the grammar too, ain't we! (=  And we have got to check out the grammar too, haven't we!)

I teach grammar and pronunciation. RP/BBC English accent is my speciality.

The aim is to use a lot of contractions, but still sound RP/BBC/posh: to sound educated, but natural.

Cambridge University is where I studied, got my BA and MA, and my Post-Graduate Certificate of Education. I'm retired so I'm putting my lessons on the internet so my students can see them. And, I hope, enjoy them, and have fun learning.

This course uses mainly intermediate grammar, so is not very difficult.

There are QUIZZES, LISTENING SKLLS PRACTICE, SPEAKING and EXAM ADVICE, SONG LYRICS, and a lot of fun.

As this is the basic course most of the contractions are common and you may know them: don't, haven't, it's, we've, you're, etc. Some may be new: needn't, teacher'll, who'd, where've,  etc.

And we check out the differences between howl and how'll, it's and its, and he'll and hell !  And how to say needn't've, shan't, and mustn't've.

Ain't that right! Yeah!

wanna? gonna? mightn't? can't've!
