What you will learn
  • Negotiate effectively and mediate conflict as a third party referee for disputes in and out of the medical environment. Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to identify the major categories of dispute recognition, conflict management, and understand the difference between positional and distributive bargaining, interest-based negotiation and mediation, the narrative models for conflict resolution, and the risks associated with both private and public adjudicated cases. The student will understand the methods and risks associated with discourse of adverse events and learn the methods to proactively manage emerging conflicts through facilitative communication and appreciative inquiry. The student will observe several clinical scenarios that generate conflict and understand the management of these disputes from both an academic and practical intervention by the conflict resolution specialist.
